Incidentally, St. Moritz (1,856 m.a.s.l.) lies in the heart of Oberengadin’s lake district, where the sun shines for 322 days a year on average.

St. Moritz and the skiing and hiking region Engadin / St. Moritz are served by 56 mountain railways and lifts between 5,577 and 10,826 ft.a.s.l. / 1,700 and 3,300 m.a.s.l. In winter 350 kilometers of runs and in summer innumerable hiking and mountain biking trails are accessible.

Located at an altitude of nearly 6000 ft above sea level the lakes of the Upper Engadine offer beautiful wind conditions. In the course of the morning the Maloja wind starts up with wind speeds of 3-6 Bft. Only at sunset does the wind drop again - a real yachtsman's paradise!

Alpine Skiing
St. Moritz is currently applying to host the Ski World Championships of 2013 – the fifth after 1934, 1948,1974 and 2003.
Decisive in St. Moritz' top rankings as a winter resort is the consistent modernization of its "home mountain", Corviglia – venue of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships of 2003. With its high altitude and the two other top-rate skiing areas of Corvatsch and Diavolezza, the Engadin can offer just about anything a winter traveler could desire

On the three racing Sundays in February more than 30,000 spectators gather on the frozen lake of St. Moritz to follow exciting races and entertaining events in the magnificent setting of the Engadine mountains. Gallop and trotting races as well as the highlight, the Skijöring (which is an invention from St.Moritz). Skijöring – unique worldwide: The White Turf world exclusive, the Skijöring, is a particular favourite with the spectators. The skiers are pulled by riderless thoroughbreds over a distances of 2,700 m at speeds of up to 50 km/h.

Bobsleigh and skeleton - Olympic Bob Run St.Moritz-Celerina
The world’s only natural-ice bobsleigh run (opened in 1890) is another of St. Moritz exclusive features!
The Olympic Bob Run of St. Moritz / Celerina is the only remaining run in the world that is still fully made of natural ice. As unique as its building materials are - nothing but snow and water - so is its history. Many European and World Championships as well as two Olympic races have been decided on the bob run from St. Moritz to Celerina.

Bobsleigh taxi rides – the trip of a lifetime
Experience a different kind of adventure, as you race down 1612 metres through the icy canal from St. Moritz to Celerina on a bob guest ride.

Cross-country skiing - Engadin Cross-Country Skiing Marathon (42 km)
The Engadine Ski Marathon has been held annually since 1969 on the second Sunday of March.
The race is open to the public and all who wish to take up the challenge of covering the classic marathon distance of 42 km are welcome to participate in this mass event.

Engadin wind and the Kitesurf World Cup
At the beginning of August there are spectacular windsurfing and kitesurfing regattas on the Silvaplana lake, as well as the Engadin Windsurfing Marathon, which is rich in tradition and the largest event of its kind.

Sailing – St.Moritz Match Race
In early September another edition of St.Moritz Match Race will take place, guaranteeing sailing at the highest level.
Thrilling dueling and jousting on the water – Match Race is one of the most exciting competitions in sailing, pitting two crews directly against each other. Participants and teams are known from the America’s Cup such as Alinghi, New Zealand, etc

Lower Engadine

Scuol is the business center in Lower Engadine valley. It is a well-known spa town and vacation spot. It is the largest village on the left side of the Inn river.
